A LEGACY BUILT ALONGSIDE SOUTH AFRICA

For nine decades, FEM has been part of South Africa’s construction story.

Since 1936 we have served one industry with a singular purpose:
protecting the people behind progress.

As roads were built, cities expanded and skylines transformed, FEM evolved alongside the construction industry, adapting to change while remaining steadfast in our commitment to those we serve.

Through periods of growth, transformation and change, FEM has remained a trusted partner to South Africa’s construction industry.

Ninety years later, that commitment remains unchanged.

#GenerationsOfDifference

South Africa’s infrastructure tells a story.

It is a story written by people.

Across generations. Across decades. Across countless construction sites, projects and communities.

FEM 90 Years Badge

1960’s

THEY BUILT THE
FOUNDATIONS

The bricklayers, artisans and construction workers of an earlier era laid the groundwork for the South Africa we know today. Every road, bridge and building began with their hands.

1990’s

THEY BUILT THE
SKYLINE

As South Africa transformed, a new generation of builders, foremen, engineers and project teams helped reshape our cities and expand our infrastructure.

Today

THEY’RE BUILDING
THE FUTURE

A new generation is shaping what comes next.
Young professionals.
Women in engineering.
Emerging contractors.
Construction innovators.
Together, they are building a stronger future for South Africa.

90 years on, FEM still stands behind them

The FEM Story

Few organisations can claim ninety years of continuous service.

Fewer still can say they have remained focused on one purpose throughout their history.

For generations, FEM has worked alongside employers, workers and industry stakeholders to support safer working environments and provide protection when it matters most.

Our story is not measured only in years.

It is measured in the lives protected, the families supported and the workplaces made safer.

And through every era of change, FEM remained committed to protecting the people who make progress possible.

MAKING A MEANINGFUL DIFFERENCE

One industry.
Many generations.
One constant. FEM

For ninety years, our commitment has extended beyond insurance.

Ninety years is more than an anniversary.
It is the reflection of a promise kept.

Ninety years is more than an anniversary.
It is the reflection of a promise kept.

It has been about creating meaningful impact for workers, employers and the broader construction industry.

Through claims support, workplace safety initiatives, stakeholder partnerships and industry leadership, FEM has remained committed to making a meaningful difference where it matters most.
